"In spite of my great

admiration for individual

splendid talents I do not accept the star system.

Collective creative effort is the root of our kind of art. That requires ensemble

acting and whoever mars that ensemble is committing a crime not only against

his comrades but also

against the very art of which he is the servant."

Artist Statement

Phot by Tyler Core

With cannon accuracy, my first theatrical production was Charlotte's Web. My Mom was Charlotte and she was pregnant with me. And for the sound bite, “Why yes, Stephan, I was born to do this.”

Growing up in Colorado, I split my childhood years between community theatre, competitive swimming, and children’s choirs before attending Denver School of the Arts as a Vocal Major. Then, after earning my BA in Theatre and Music/Dance Minors from Kansas State University, I lived in 9 different states, quite literally coast to coast and border to border. Which is exactly why I am the Creative I am today.

It's easy to get caught up in one city's ideals or preferences, and experiencing so many gorgeously contrasting artistic communities as I have has kept me grounded in the collaborative art that makes my heart sing. It has kept me diligent yet patient, awake yet understanding, practical yet wildly imaginative.

I act because it makes me a better person. I act because it keeps me humble. I act not only because it’s fun and the right kind of easy, but because what the world needs now more than ever are whole humans who can advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves. Truly, humanity needs Ensemble.

I am not the most important person in the room; I am one part of a whole. Our Art cannot expand, cannot grow until we do. I will not allow Theatre to stay stagnant. I will not cage the love of my life.

But most importantly, I will not allow anyone else to either.
